CURRICULUM
The studio offers a balanced curriculum of repertoire, theory, ear training, technique, and sight reading and composition. This curriculum is designed to meet or exceed the requirements of the Louisiana Music Teachers Association Piano Rally Syllabus. The syllabus outlines a progression of skills from beginning to early advanced levels.
LESSON FORMAT
Lessons are offered in a private and/or small group format. Individual private lesson structure is designed to best meet the needs of the individual student and is at the discretion of the teacher. Private lessons are held once a week. Group lessons are offered throughout the year so that students can share their musical experiences. Group lessons are designed as Master Classes in which students perform for one another. Students are motivated by their peers and enjoy learning in a group format working theory, playing games, and exploring musical activities in order to enrich musical foundations. These lessons also give students the opportunity to practice playing in public before recitals or competitions. In order to minimize distractions, parents, friends, and siblings are not allowed in the studio during lessons.
CALENDAR
Fall & Spring Semesters:
August - May : Each student will receive 3-5 lessons per month depending on the day lessons are held and the fall of the calendar. Master Classes are typically held on Saturday morning and will be announced by the teacher 4 weeks before the class meets. The studio follows the public school calendar for most holidays.
There are no make-ups, refunds, or credits for missed lessons.
Summer Semester:
Students are advised and encouraged to take summer lessons in order to reserve their place in the studio and to prohibit a decline in the learning process. Each student should enroll a minimum of 7 lessons from June to July. A new schedule is created each summer in order to accommodate vacations and camps. The flat rate is dropped and payment is made at each lesson. Teacher will discuss the rate per lesson at the beginning of summer.
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
A variety of non-competitive performance opportunities are available to students throughout the year. The teacher will assist you in choosing events that are appropriate for your child including Master Classes. A complete calendar listing all events is posted on the website in the fall.
Attendance is expected at all studio recitals and special events.
Judged events offer students opportunities to demonstrate what they have learned and receive feedback from another experienced teacher. Students are encouraged to participate in festival.
PRACTICE
Regular practice is essential to progress in piano and expected in this studio. Every student is expected to establish and maintain a consistent practice routine, away from distractions. Weekly assignments are carefully planned in order to meet the goals of each student. Students are expected to practice everything they are assigned.
