Let me introduce myself!Hi! I'm Sherry and my passion is teaching piano and music...to all ages. I've done it for 40+ years!
Sherry Barron is the founder and Artistic Director of the Academy for Cultivating Creative Arts LLC, The Baton Rouge Homeschool Choirs, the former West Feliciana Parish Children's Chorus, and maintains a private piano studio. She holds a bachelor's degree for Vocal/Keyboard Music Education from Louisiana State University and also attended Southeastern Louisiana University with a concentration in piano performance. Mrs. Barron holds certification in Music/Early and Middle Childhood from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (2006). She has directed various types of choirs for over 30 years, has taught private piano to both children and adults for over 40 years and also holds Orff-Schulwerk certification. She also founded and is the Artistic Director for Voices in Motion, (a division of The Academy for Cultivating Creative Arts, LLC). Sherry currently teaches Pre-K music at Jefferson Baptist (since2017) and began Sherry's Music Playhouse (2018), an educational experience for pre-K thru 1st grade students using Music Prodigies Curriculum. She believes that you are never to young or old to begin the art of music making! It is Mrs. Barron's belief that Music Makes You Smarter. She has a passion for planting musical seeds, growing and nurturing them to establish strong musicians that can give back to the artistic community at large. Mrs. Barron has served as an Executive Board Member for the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and also served as Co-Chairman for BRSO's Education Committee. She was a co-writer for the Department of Education in re-establishing the Louisiana State Music Curriculum Guide (2007) and served on the state Textbook Adoption Committee (2011). Her accomplishments include BRSO Music Teacher of the Year (2005), Bains Lower Teacher of the Year (2006), National Board Certification (2006), Honorary Commission as an Educational Leader and Mentor for the Congressional Youth Leadership Council (2005), and Who's Who Among American Women (2007). She was Keynote speaker for Learning in the Country, a workshop for 200 elementary teachers from the southern region of LA. She presents at various non-music and music workshops and has served as a panelist for the Cecil J. Picard Educators Excellence Symposium and guest speaker at the Louisiana Librarian's State Convention. As a member and past President of the Red Stick Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA), she annually hosted and presented workshops for music educators and children's church choir directors. Her experience with children of all ages covers a wide variety of the arts. Sherry was the Co-Producer for the television/radio broadcast of Kids Jamboree, an International Christian TV Ministry for children (1985-89). She is very active in her church's Worship Arts Ministry (Community Bible Church, BR,LA) and co-directed the WAM for Kids ministry of The Chapel on the Campus for 18 years. Throughout her career, she has instructed thousands of students in the arts and while doing so, she has maintained a private piano studio. Mrs. Barron is actively involved in many facets of visual and performing arts. She and her husband developed Talent Spectacular! in 2012 which provided opportunities for students to perform and 'run' a spectacular talent show, complete with auditions, private coaching, and performing in a high energy atmosphere filled with laser lights, haze, & special effects; all the bells and whistles to help educate students in production methods as well as produce an entertaining talent show. In 2008, Sherry debuted her first music composition with theatrical dance. As an educator, creative, songwriter and composer, Sherry's passion is to share the beautiful art of music through a variety of creative experiences. Teaching piano delights and fulfills her heart as she pours herself into each student, cultivating and encouraging them to realize their passion and potential. |
